A Further Tribute to Bob Logan
David Hull
At a recent social gathering, I was chatting with an acquaintance from Cambridge and the subject of square dancing came up. He told me of a joint inter-city fund raising dance he was helping to organize along with members of a Guelph group. The funds were to go to the people of Badger, Newfoundland who had suffered in recent floods. I asked him if he knew Bob Logan and of course he did. Bob was part of the organizing group in Guelph. He went on to explain to me what a “neat” guy Bob is, but then I knew this as I had worked with Bob in the University Library for many years. “Neat” in that he was always the gentleman that dressed with sartorial elegance (even in shorts he passed for the Chief Librarian); “neat” in that the act of helping seemed to come naturally to him – the incoming undergraduates loved him.
Bob retired from the Library in 1990 and soon thereafter took an active interest in matters pertaining to retirees, an interest that has never waned until his recent decision to “retire” again. As a member of the UGRA Executive and of particular Committees and Task Forces, he has given unstintingly of his time and talents. In addition, and this is typical of Bob, he has gone out of his way to help individual retirees who have needed a sympathetic, knowledgeable hand. Thanks Bob!! We know you will still be at the end of a telephone line or on e-mail should we need advice.
